Types of Houses in Britain

What are houses like?

Houses vary from one part of

the

country

to

another.

Most

houses in England are made of

stone

or

brick

from

the

local

area where the houses are built.

The colours of the stones and

bricks vary across the country.

Home and House

Home- the place

where you live or

where you feel that

you belong.

It’s time to go

that is made for

people to live in.

A detached house is a house

which is not joined to another

house.

It

can

take

on

any

form or style (it could be a

bungalow or a cottage or a

mansion).

A bungalow is a

house that is all on the

ground level.

a cottage

A cottage is a small house,

usually of only one

story. It is a small, modest

house at a lake, mountain resort,

etc., owned or rented

as a vacation home.

a mansion

A mansion is a very large

and impressive house. The

free space surrounding the

building is private to the

owner and his family. This

is the most expensive type

of house.

a semi-detached house

A semi-detached house is a

house

which

is

joined

to

another

house

on

one

side.

The two houses are built to

mirror each other.

a terraced house

A

terraced

house

is

a

house which is part of a

long row of houses which

usually

look

the

same.

Terrace

is

also

known as row housing or

townhouses.

A flat is part of a bigger

building where all the flats

share a front door. A flat

can be a studio unit, a one-

bedroom, two-bedroom or

three-bedroom unit.
