Ход урока:
1. Good morning children! Glad to see you! Today we're having an unusual lesson, as we have
some guests present here. But we hope you'll be active as usual. So let's start. We have read much
about Issac Asimov, got acquainted with a lot of his stories. And today at the lesson we are going to
sum up everything we know and try to hold a discussion.
2. (Two children entering the classroom)
- Be careful!
- Sure I am. I understand the importance of experiment pretty well.
- Would you be so kind and not stand in our way.
-Professor Osipenko, I admire you personally and your work. You're the most talented doctor
I've ever met...
- It's so kind of you but we're wasting our time. Let's get down to work.
- Doc, you have been trying for so many years to struggle with death.
- Death?! What are you talking about! Soon we won't find this word in any dictionary. And
we will live forever, enjoying the pleasures of our life.
- Living forever... Nonsense. You are scientist and you believe in such silly things.
- My naive friend, thanks to our science we already are able to create a perfect heart, perfect
brains, and in the nearest future – a perfect man.
- You mean, a cold man with a cold metal heart, feeling nothing – no happiness, love, hatred,
so soul...
- You are too sentimental, my dear. Immortality is the mankind's dream. One can't deny it.
- Our friends, what do you think? What is better...... to have a perfect body and live
forever.......
- Or to live a real life full of bright emotions?
3. (The children freeze and “Isaac Asimov enters”)
Hey! What is happening here, I wonder? Ah, the characters from my books... Dr Shilov and Pr. Os-
ipenko What were they discussing here? Oh, sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. Maybe there is no
need and you know my name.
Yes, yes, yes. It's me Isaac Asimov. Yo may ask me, what are you doing here? And, what am I do-
ing here? Your teachers asked me to be present here today. Don't widen your eyes.
And I'm here from the past. Maybe some words about my biography.
I was born in Belorussia near Smolensk in 1920. By the way, this is my old house in
the village. Then three years later I was brought by my parents to the United States
and I grew up in Brooklyn. From my childhood I liked reading, and by the time I
was nine I was already reading science fiction stories. This habit influenced all my
future life. I graduated from Columbia University in New York and wanted to
connect my life with the profession of a doctor, but I was always afraid of blood, so
I left this idea and began working at the University. I also began writing short
stories at the age of twenty. You know, some of my stories are about medicine, as
the theme was too close to me. In 1941 I became a real writer. Do you know what
my first book was? My first famous book was written in 1942. It was Foundation.
Then I wrote my bestseller “ I, robot” and a lot of other books.
4. Have you any questions, any questions for me? Don't be afraid as it's the only opportunity to do
it. Do you remember what I am famous for? Yes, I am famous for my three laws of robotics. By the
way, do you know them? I created three laws. O'k. Let's revise them. (They read the laws on the
screen)
Did you read any of my stories? What do you think about them?Did you like them?...
O'k. It was a pleasure for me to talk with you. I hope you will read some of my stories and you will
like them.
5. We should thank our guest. But do you know some of his stories were filmed. Let's watch an ex-
tract from one of his stories. (The film “I - robot”)
6. - Robots, what are they talking about? What do we need robots for? Only we people are perfect
creatures made of flash and blood.
- Exactly. Flash and blood. A human being is a weak creature. It needs constant supplies of air, wa-
ter and food. It needs sleep and rest. Do you realize how limited we are?
- Nonsense! What limits are talking about? We, human beings are born to experience different feel-
ings, not just work.
- But imaging the profits we'll have using robots.
- Oh. Stop it. We'll never find any agreement. Children, will you help us? Robots – good or harm?
7. What country is famous for producing robots?
In what spheres are they used nowadays?
Would you like to have a robot as a helper? In what way will it help you?
Why can they be dangerous?
Can you predict the future? What will it look like?
Many scientists say that we will become their slaves or we will exchange our positions?
8. Now let's speak about ideal robots. What is an ideal robot for you? Is it a boy or a girl? The size.
Is it big or small? Maybe the shape? Its qualities. Is it kind or dangerous? Good or bad? Its duties
and functions. What can it do? Or what should it do? Is it just a toy or a helper, or maybe a real
friend?
And at home you had to draw a picture of a robot. Now you can see your masterpieces on the
board. And I want some of you to come here and choose any robot you like and describe it.
9. Let's come to some conclusion. Good or harm? What is your opinion about robots? Help or dan-
ger? The world with robots or without?
10. Do you like the lesson? Would your like to have such lessons in the future? Would you like it to
become a tradition?
Thanks all of you for the lesson. And we will give excellent marks to everyone held the discussion.
