“The long-term perspective is a poor
adviser in current affairs. In the long run,
we are all dead. ”
The early years of John
•
Keynes was born in Cambridge on June 5, 1883, in the
family of the famous economist, professor of
economics and philosophy at Cambridge University,
John Neville Keynes, and Florence Ada Brown, a
successful writer.
•
In 1908 he became a professor of
economic theory. He preserves his
connection with Cambridge all his life -
until his death, this is his “academic
home”.
World War I period
•
In 1930 he published his two-volume "Treatise on
Money", in which he summarized his views on the
functioning of the monetary system of capitalism.
At the start of World War I, Keynes worked as an
economic adviser at the Ministry of Finance. And at
the end of it, he, as the representative of this ministry,
participates in the Paris Peace Conference.
General theory of employment, interest and
money
•
As a result of painstaking work, the
General Theory of Employment,
Interest and Money, which he
publishes in 1936, appears.
•
This is the essence of the fundamental idea
of this revolution: a mature capitalist
economy does not tend to automatically
achieve economic equilibrium, that is, to
use all the resources it has: production
facilities, labor, savings, and therefore is
subject to periodic crises, and often chronic
unemployment.
GENERAL THEORY OF EMPLOYMENT,
INTEREST AND MONEY
Period of World War II
•
When World War II began, Keynes worked
as an adviser to the Ministry of Finance,
and one of the directors of the Bank of
England.
The death of Keynes and the
development of his innovation
•
Keynes died in Firle (Sussex county) on April
21, 1946. But Keynes’s theory itself is still
alive. It continues to evolve in modern
conditions.
