What is modern

street sculpture?

In recent years urban sculpture became very popular in Russia.

What is it – urban sculpture? This is a kind of street art, and it’s

not monumental sculpture like memorials.

Street sculpture has no pedestal, it’s always very close to the

audience. Sculpture’s characters are usually ordinary, not

famous people or even animals and inanimate objects.

Street sculpture often shows funny scenes of our life or it shows

traditions of the city where we live or it’s just something

interesting for kids.

In Tula we can also see some interesting sculptures.They all make our home

town more beautiful and attractive.

I’d like to tell you about them.

Sculpture «Tula tea party»

This nice sculpture is located in Zaretchensky district of Tula in the small park in

Oktyabrskaya street.

It illustrates a very old Russian tradition of gathering of the whole family

around a big table not just for drinking tea but for a long chat and song

singing.

Tula was one of the first places in Russia to begin the production of

samovars, special devices for making tea.

In XIX century samovars were very popular. Every family in Tula had a big

samovar on the table along with traditional honey cakes.

A Mushroom Glade in the Kremlin Square

We can’t help admiring this lovely composition.

Children and grown- ups enjoy taking pictures near this

wonderful sculpture which is located in the Central Park.

A Swan LAKE

It’s always exciting to know something new from the history of your

native town. It’s a sculpture of a historical centre of Tula which dates

back to 1913.

It’s located at the crossing of Soviet street and Krasnoarmeysky Avenue.

Loving people

There is a romantic sculpture in Komsomolsky Park. It’s

devoted to all young loving people.

A Waiting Boy

A lovely figure of a waiting boy is situated at the entrance to the Children’s

Theatre.It’s very popular with young audience.

A Happy Tula Family

It’s a young couple with a child in their hands. “ A happy family” is

another sculpture situated at the entrance to Perinatal Centre.

A Meeting Place

Look at these children. They are reading a book with great interest.

This sculpture is just near the Central Library in Lenin Avenue.

A Policeman

A wonderful sculpture has recently appeared near the Kremlin.It’s a

figure of a policeman who looks very reliable.It was made in honour

of the people who guards our native city.
