Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face,

Great chieftain o' the pudding-race!

Aboon them a' yet tak your place,

Painch, tripe, or thairm:

Weel are ye wordy o'a grace

As lang's my arm….

O SCOTIA! My dear, my native soil! For whom my warmest wish to heaven is sent! Long may thy hardy sons of rustic toil Be blest with health and peace and sweet content! And O may Heaven their simple lives prevent From Luxury’s contagion, weak and vile! Then howe’er crowns and coronets be rent, A virtuous Populace may rise the while And stand a wall of fire, around their much-lov’d them better still, Even in extremely of ill . Now we should recall Burns’ great love to his native land and to its people. All of Burns’ poetry shows him to be one of the greatest masters of lyrical verse, warm patriot of his country.
Robert Burns blessed God to live in such a beautiful land. Travelling about the country, he admired its hills, fields, rivers and lochs. The “native soil” inspired him to write such wonderful lines in the poem: My heart`s in the Highlands, my heart is not here; My heart`s in the Highlands, a chasing the deer; Chasing the wild deer, and following the roe; My heart in the Highlands, wherever I go.- Farewell to the Highlands, farewell to the North; The birth- place of Valour, the country of Worth; Wherever I wander, wherever I rove, The hills of the Highlands for ever I love.- My Heart’s in the Highlands

To Burns, all men were born equal and a man’s worth does not depend on the weight of his purse or the acreage of his estate. This is most famously stated in the song … Is there for honest Poverty That hings his head, an' a' that; The coward slave-we pass him by, We dare be poor for a' that! For a' that, an' a' that. Our toils obscure an' a' that, The rank is but the guinea's stamp, The Man's the gowd for a' that. A Man's A Man For A' That
